CSS styling in print view

You may wish to provide some custom CSS specifically for the print view, tailoring the displayed data for a printer. Button's print view operates by creating an simple HTML document with a representation of your export data and then displaying that in the browser. As part of that process it copies across the stylesheets from the host document. It will also add the class dt-print-view to the body element of the new document.

The upshot of all of this is that you can use body.dt-print-view { ... } CSS and additional selectors to target styles, in your standard stylesheets, specifically for the print view.

In this example we centre align the h1 element and give it a little margin.

It is worth noting that you may also use @media print {} selectors in your CSS which will work in your print view as well. However, styles applied this way will not show visibly in the print view browser window, thus the body.dt-print-view selector is generally preferred.

This example uses a little bit of additional CSS beyond what is loaded from the library files (below), in order to correctly display the table. The additional CSS used is shown below:

This table loads data by Ajax. The latest data that has been loaded is shown below. This data will update automatically as any additional data is loaded.

The script used to perform the server-side processing for this table is shown below. Please note that this is just an example script using PHP. Server-side processing scripts can be written in any language, using the protocol described in the DataTables documentation.
